My Plan to Become a Spy

I’m going to Washington, D.C. for Thanksgiving. It’s the first time I’ve been there, so the friend I’m staying with is very concerned that I see as many tourist spots as possible.
“Sarah, have you thought about what you would like to do while here?”
“Yes, The International Spy Museum.”
“Well what about the Smithsonian Museums?”
“Um… how about The International Spy Museum?
“You really have to see the Thomas Jefferson Memorial.”
“I really have to see The International Spy Museum.”
“I want to take you to Georgetown, you’ll love it?”
“Oh, is that where The International Spy Museum is?”
“Fine, Sarah, we’ll go.”

Is it only because of Stephen Colbert? Because I have to admit, I didn’t know there was an International Spy Museum until he went there. And now I TOTALLY want to go!
Ah darling, the life of espionage is indeed a noble one. You may find this difficult to believe, but I myself am most trained in the art, having spied (or “stalked” as many ignorantly and hurtfully call it) on many a Nielson in my heyday. Tis’ a life filled with constant danger and loneliness, but also with thrills and excitements galore! Godspeed on your quests. 🙂

I went to the spy museum a few years ago. It was ok nothing mind blowing. They did have some cool gadgets, I think I had the most fun in the gift shop
I was born and lived in D.C. … the spy museum is OL. But the Air and Space Museum is the best. You wouldn’t think so. But it is.
Vietnam Memorial is pretty cool too.
Good plan.
You have to go. Period. I tried to go once right after it opened and it was too crowded so we ended up not going and I’ve regretted it ever since!
DC is beautiful. I bet you fall in love.

I loved the international spy museum! It was so much fun. Make sure you go through the ceiling duct.
And the gift shop is rad too.
I’d book tickets in advance because they sell out.

I have been to the Spy Museum and YAWN! Really. Not that hot.
The FDR memorial is super cool. And for a real pick me up, check out the Holocaust Museum. And then drink, A LOT afterwards.

We just spent our anniversary in DC and we were going to go to the Spy Museum until we found out that it has a fairly high admission fee. And let’s face it – it’s DC. There are umpteen other (better) museums that are free admission. We decided to save our cash for wine.
I loved the Air & Space Museum. The Holocaust Museum is brutal but incredible. And of course the National Gallery. And if you go to the Natural History Museum, you can see the Hope Diamond.
OK, have been following you quietly for awhile, you are fun to read.
Grew up near DC. Here’s my recommendation among the others: Go to the Ford Theater — afterall, we all learned about Lincoln, Ford Theater, and John Wilkes Boothe. It won’t take you long and it is incredible to see where it happened and just how small the place is.
I just got back from D.C. I hope you really enjoy yourself but be warned, it has been bitterly cold there lately. You can really notice the difference between the dry cold of SLC winters and the kind that comes off the Potomoc.
Finally, if you are looking for a fun night out, the scene has moved away from the old reliable areas like Georgetown, Dupont circle and the Waterfront districts to Adams Morgan and or the U street area. Also, Columbia Heights is quickly becoming the up and coming area.
You are going to have a great time there – there is no way you have enough time to see everything you want.. But I know you are going to love it. Take lots of pics!
